Learn about Arcadia...

Since the poems of Virgil to the Renaissance masterpieces of Titian and the classical paintings of Poussin, Arcadia has been identified with the romantic idea of a paradise on earth. The notion that the pure, free, pastoral life, where the pleasures of love rival the beauty of the natural landscape, leading to more elevated spiritual quests and ultimately to union with the divine, is what constitutes the Arcadian ideal.

Discovering "Arcadia"...

" Maenalia is precipitous, and it is there where Arcas lies buried, after whom all have been  named, where neither three nor four nor five roads  cross".

 Pausanias, Travels in Greece, Arcadia.

Arcadia has been identified with the idea of an earthly paradise since the beginning of human thought and through the ages.  Prior to the time of Crone and Rhea this idea holds that a place exists when nature and mankind function in unity, sexual urge becomes the creative force and music the purifying experience, constitute the ideal approach to God.  This idea never ceased to be part of the foundation of human thought.

“What is God, what is “no God” and what lies in between them?” wonders

There, somewhere between heaven and earth, in the always sacred mountains with the pure and chaste from skepticism shepherds; there, in the Pelasgic land of mythical ancestors, Virgil turns the idea into myth.  There is where Arcadia is.  The idea turned into a nostalgic myth which redeems and pervades Western’s world thinking.

Thus, the name Arcadia itself concentrates through time and through the History of European thought the concept of myth which coincides with the essence of mythology:

The communion in the renewing process of death and rebirth.
